Want to Model?

Want to be a Photographer?

Look Good in a Fedora?

Are You an Actor?

a Dancer?

an Athlete?

an Exhibitionist?

an Adventurer?

an Insomniac?

or just Bored?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, keep reading.

This is the opportunity you've been waiting for - or maybe not. It is an opportunity and it does await -- the only remaining question is: does it wait for you?

  • If you are in or near central North Carolina -- or even points north on the east coast of the U.S.
  • Live near a deep water port within 200 - 300 miles of Chapel Hill, N.C. (Hint: The Mighty Eno doesn't count)
  • If you are interested in creating pictures that involve movement and expression.
  • If you would like portfolio shots, or head shots,
  • If you would like to learn how to do do those things that I do (photographically that is)
  • Then email me today

As a starving artist I can't pay anyone to model for me, except in prints, and of course fame. I do require full releases for all pictures and will use those I like on the Chapel Hill Noir web site. I'm particularly interested in people who are willing to play a "role" in the photographs. My current ideas are based on film noir themes, as you might have guessed from the name of this site, but I'm also willing to work on your ideas. I would like to produce and direct the shortest movies ever made - one frame each - based on lobby cards and paperback crime novel covers of the 1940s and 50s. Would you like to be the world weary hard boiled detective in This Gun is Mine or I The Bailiff? How about the femme fatale with the warm green eyes and the cold black heart? Are you the next Bogey or a budding Bacall? Have you always secretly wanted to be a Casper Guttmann? A Canino, or a Joel Cairo? A Velma or a Velda?

Now you can be the detective, or the dame, or the snitch, the colonel's wild daughter, the cop, the gunsel, or the kingpin, the hero or the villain. You can even be the hero AND the villain. If you are into costume, make believe, and make-up you can play every role in the final picture - even the victim! The Series is called Night of Noir and will be book three of The Noctonaut.

If you are into movement, like dance or athletics, I would like to do motion studies similar to my Moving Pictures. Some would be daylight shots, others night. While my particular tastes involve movement and blur, I would also shoot some convertional pictures, freezing the action for your publicity uses. I'm particularly interested in finding a flamenco dancer with costumes, but ballet, jazz, experimental, and even swing are all photogenic. Sorry, country line dancing is out.

If the photography on this site makes you want to learn how to use a camera, I do give lessons, and the price is right. If you are willing to help me by carrying equipment, holding reflectors, modeling, doing make-up, etc, I will teach you everything I know --- and even help you find out things I don't know! There is no nudity involved. No salesman will call. Your only investment will be time. I'm particularly interested in finding someone who is interested in doing some "light painting" or other night activities.

At some point this year I intend to visit a deep water river or estuary port for pictures to complete the Noctonaut chapter entitled Night is a River. If you live near such a port, or even an ocean port, and are willing to do some scouting for me I will come to you. You'll be repaid with pictures, photography lessons, and enough all night diner coffee to keep you awake for weeks.

If you'd like to see what you are getting yourself into before you make a commitment, check out the Galleries.
